On July 10, 2025, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Foreign Minister, met with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov in Kuala Lumpur. The two sides exchanged views on the Iran nuclear issue. Lavrov introduced the Russian position considerations. Wang Yi stated that force cannot bring peace, pressure cannot solve problems, and dialogue and negotiation are the fundamental way out. China values Iran's commitment not to seek nuclear weapons development, and also respects Iran's right to peaceful use of nuclear energy as a signatory to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. As permanent members of the UN Security Council and important parties to the comprehensive agreement on the Iran nuclear issue, China and Russia should continue to strengthen strategic cooperation, promote the political and diplomatic resolution of the Iran nuclear issue, jointly uphold the international nuclear non-proliferation system, and promote the early realization of peace and stability in the Middle East. The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional hot-spot issues of common concern, such as the Palestinian-Israeli issue.
