Three informed sources revealed that Starlink has obtained a commercial operating license from the Indian space regulatory authority, clearing the final regulatory barrier for the satellite service provider to enter the Indian market. The company, led by Elon Musk, has been waiting for India's commercial operating license since 2022. Last month, it had already received a key license from the Indian Department of Telecommunications, but was still awaiting approval from the Indian space department. Starlink and the Indian space department have not immediately responded to requests for comment. Starlink will be the third company to receive access permission in India. Previously, India had approved OneWeb, a European communication satellite company, and Jio, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, to provide satellite services in India. Next, Starlink will need to obtain spectrum resources from the Indian government, build ground infrastructure, and demonstrate through testing and trials that it complies with the signed safety regulations.
