According to the Financial Times, EU negotiators are on the verge of reaching a trade agreement with US President Trump that will confirm the higher tariffs that the EU faces compared to the treatment enjoyed by the UK. It is reported that Brussels is preparing to sign an interim "framework" agreement during the ongoing negotiations, which stipulates that during the negotiations, the "equivalent" tariffs imposed by the US President will be 10%, equivalent to the baseline tariffs imposed on the UK. However, six diplomats familiar with the situation have indicated that the EU is not expected to gain the same level of market access to the US as the UK for steel, cars, and other products affected by industry tariffs. Additionally, Trump has also requested a tariff of 17% on agricultural products from the EU. One diplomat stated, "The UK's agreement is better than this. It's surprising considering how long we've been negotiating."
