The Wisdom Financial APP learned that the Monetary Policy Committee of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand announced on Wednesday local time that it will keep the Official Cash Rate (OCR) unchanged at 3.25%, ending the previous six consecutive rate cuts. This decision is contrary to the results of a survey of 23 economists by Bloomberg - although the majority of economists (19 of them) predicted a 25 basis point rate cut, the central bank ultimately chose to pause adjustments. The statement noted that future interest rate movements will depend on further validation of data such as the speed of economic recovery, the sustainability of inflation, and the impact of tariffs. If mid-term inflation pressures are expected to ease as expected, further rate cuts may still be possible.
