A large fire near Marseille, France is spreading, causing the airport to close and disrupting train services.

On the 8th, the coastal city of Marseille in southern France was threatened by a spreading fire from the neighboring town in the north, causing the airport to temporarily close and partial interruptions in railway traffic. According to French media reports, on that morning, a car caught fire on a road in the town of Le Puy-en-Velay in the north of Marseille, igniting vegetation around it. With strong winds prevailing, the fire quickly spread towards the northern part of Marseille. The road where the car caught fire leads to Marseille Airport. The airport closed its runway in the afternoon and only partially resumed operations in the evening. An airport spokesperson said a total of 54 flights were canceled, with 14 flights landing at other airports. The French state railway company reported severe disruptions in railway traffic, with more than 10 passenger trains canceled. The impact is expected to last until the 9th.
