Forest fires in southern France spread, already burning over 700 hectares of forest land.
On July 8th local time, a forest fire erupted in the suburbs of Marseille in southern France, spreading rapidly under the strong wind, burning more than 700 hectares of forest land and injuring at least 9 firefighters. Marseille Provence Airport was temporarily closed, with multiple flights being cancelled or diverted. Local media reports said the fire originated in the northern Marseille area. On the same day, strong dry north winds blew in the area, with wind speeds reaching 70 kilometers per hour at one point, causing the fire line to rapidly expand and approach the city of Marseille. Railway and road transportation was temporarily disrupted, and the city government advised residents to avoid going out, closing doors and windows to prevent smoke and dust from entering.
