Trump: If Powell's testimony misleads Congress, he should "resign immediately".
President Trump said that if, as critics say, Federal Reserve Chairman Powell's remarks on the renovation of the headquarters were indeed misleading to Congress, Powell should "resign immediately." Trump reiterated his criticism of Powell at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, calling his actions "lousy." He told reporters that if Powell deceived Congress, he should leave quickly. "He should resign immediately," Trump said, "we should find someone who will lower interest rates." Trump has repeatedly attacked Powell for the Federal Reserve's stance on maintaining stable interest rates, publicly stating last month that he would choose someone willing to lower rates to replace Powell. Many of his officials have also joined the criticism, including Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte, who earlier called for Congress to investigate Powell, accusing his testimony on the renovation of the Federal Reserve headquarters of being "deceptive" and demanding Powell's resignation.
