Intel rose more than 5% on the news that, according to local media OregonLive, Intel initiated a company-wide layoff on the 7th. Employees will be notified one by one whether they are affected, with the overall scale of layoffs numbering in the thousands. Citigroup raised Intel's target price from $21 to $24 and maintained a "neutral" rating.

Intel will cut more than 500 jobs in Oregon as part of its downsizing plan. The plan is expected to ultimately affect about 20% of the employees. Intel stated in a regulatory filing that the job cuts in Oregon will start on July 15 at the Aloha and Hillsboro factories. It is expected that this round of layoffs will permanently eliminate about 529 employees. Prior to this, Intel announced the layoffs of 107 employees at its headquarters in Santa Clara, California.
