Zuckerberg continues to poach: Apples executive in charge of AI models will jump ship to Meta

The head of Apple's artificial intelligence model executive will jump ship to Meta Platforms Inc., another setback for the struggling AI work of the iPhone maker. According to sources, Ruoming Pang, a prominent engineer and manager of Apple's foundational model team, is set to leave. Pang joined Apple in 2021 from Alphabet Inc. and is the latest heavyweight hire for Meta's new superintelligence team. In order to secure Pang, Meta offered an annual salary of tens of millions of dollars. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been aggressively recruiting, offering high salaries to bring in key AI leaders including Alexander Wang of Scale AI, startup founder Daniel Gross, and former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman.
