Honorary professor of Yonsei University in South Korea and former special advisor to the president, Wen Zhengren, stated that after Lee Myung-bak took office, he has repeatedly stated that he will promote the improvement of relations with China, as China is very important to South Korea both economically and in terms of security. However, in order to improve the previously chilly relationship between China and South Korea during the administration of former South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun, Wen Zhengren believes that the first priority is to restore diplomatic relations between the two countries' leaders, followed by restoring strategic dialogues at all levels, and enhancing public exchanges between the two countries. Regarding the future of China-South Korea relations, Wen Zhengren is optimistic, but emphasizes that both sides need to work together to promote the improvement of relations.
