According to Kyodo News, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will issue new bonds in August to raise funds for infrastructure development and education in Africa. This initiative is to support the development of Africa as an important global supplier of mineral resources, in conjunction with the TICAD (Tokyo International Conference on African Development) meeting scheduled to be held in Yokohama in August. The "Africa TICAD Bonds" will be used to ensure funding for local governments and companies to build bridges and other infrastructure projects. It is expected that Japanese local governments, regional financial institutions, and companies interested in expanding or investing in Africa will subscribe to the bonds. Purchasers will receive interest. The bonds will be issued in two types, with maturities of three years and five years, totaling approximately 23 billion yen (about 1.1 billion RMB). Based on the successful issuance of similar bonds totaling around 12 billion yen in 2019 and market research conducted by institutions such as SMBC Nikko Securities, the issuance scale this time will be expanded.
