Li Daokui, Dean of the Institute of Chinese Economic Thought and Practice at Tsinghua University, stated at the 2025 Global Financial Forum that the production capacity of some electric vehicle companies is not sufficient. For example, Xiaomi's car can sell 200,000 units in 3 minutes, but its production capacity is only tens of thousands of units. Consumers have to wait 30 to 50 weeks to buy a car. Therefore, Xiaomi cars need to expand. At the same time, many car companies have a large number of idle production lines, each with a capacity of 150,000 units. However, they cannot be effectively transferred because companies are unwilling to voluntarily exit. He suggested that the government provide a subsidy of 100 million yuan for each production line of companies willing to exit, and Xiaomi could contribute an additional billion yuan, thereby effectively replacing old and new production capacity, which would also help facilitate the smooth operation of the macro economy.
