On July 4th, Tencent announced a major update to WeChat - optimizing chat history backup. After the optimization, users can backup their phone chat history to an external storage device. Chat records can also be set to "automatic backup". If it has been more than 24 hours since the last backup, connecting the phone to an external storage device will trigger the backup. Tencent emphasizes that the backed-up chat records are stored securely with encryption to ensure privacy is not compromised; multiple users can use the same storage device without experiencing mix-ups or leaks of chat records. The optimized chat history backup feature is currently in the testing phase and is expanding its testing scope.
