Canadian Finance Minister: Can Negotiate the Best Trade Agreement with the U.S., Will No Longer Have a Digital Tax
Canadian Finance Minister Francois Philippe has stated that the country is able to negotiate a better trade agreement with the Trump administration than other countries, refuting the idea that Canada may have to accept new standard tariffs on all exports to the US. Philippe said, "Our imports from the US exceed the total of Japan, the UK, and France, so we are not in the same camp as other countries. North America's competitiveness depends on the relationship between Canada and the US, Canada has key mineral and energy resources, deep integration of supply chains between the two countries, and Canada is the largest supplier of aluminum to the US." Regarding the digital service tax, Philippe has denied the possibility of reintroducing the tax in the future.
