Trump's tariffs impose uneven costs on different states, with California being hit the hardest at $11.3 billion.
Trump's imposition of tariffs has brought in hundreds of billions of dollars in revenue for the government, but the burden on various states is not evenly distributed. An analysis report from the economic research firm Trade Partnership Worldwide showed the costs of tariffs on each state from January to May. From January 1 to May 31 of this year, California faced a tariff impact of as high as $11.3 billion, the highest in the United States so far. Texas followed at $6 billion, and Michigan at $3.3 billion. Companies in 17 states faced a tariff burden of at least $1 billion in the first five months of this year. On the other hand, 11 states had tariff burdens lower than $1 billion, with Wyoming and Alaska facing the least losses at just over $16 million. Among the most severely affected states, more than half voted for Trump in the last election.
