Tesla suspends humanoid robot production, modifies design.
Information from the Chinese supply chain shows that Tesla is currently focusing on adjusting the technical details of the humanoid robot Optimus' software and hardware, and began suspending the purchase of Optimus' components half a month ago. Two suppliers said that Tesla did not explicitly indicate that they will reduce orders for robot parts, but will determine a new production plan and restart procurement after the design adjustment of Optimus is completed, which may take up to 2 months. Musk recently stated on social media that the performance of the new version of Optimus is significantly improved compared to the second generation Optimus that will be unveiled by Tesla in 2023, and it also includes voice interaction supported by Grok. It is understood that as of the end of May this year, Tesla has purchased enough parts to produce 1200 Optimus units and has produced close to 1000 units. Musk had previously promised to produce 5000 units this year. Both of the aforementioned sources believe that with the interruption in parts procurement, this goal is unlikely to be achieved.
