The Financial Times reported on the 24th that Bjoern Seibert, chief of staff to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, stated that before the final deadline of the EU-US trade negotiations on July 9, the EU needs to coordinate its position internally and prepare for more tariff countermeasures against the United States to form a "real threat" to the US. Seibert said that Von der Leyen is prepared to take escalated tariff countermeasures against the US to secure a better agreement. He hopes that EU member states will support the proposal to impose a comprehensive tariff on US goods worth 950 billion euros, and also mentioned that the EU is preparing measures against the service industry, including taxing US technology companies and restricting US companies from obtaining public procurement contracts.
