Wang Yi talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Feridun by phone
On June 24, 2025, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a phone call with the Turkish Foreign Minister. Wang Yi stated that Israel and the United States resorting to force against Iran under the pretext of "potential future threats" seriously violated international law and infringed on Iran's sovereignty. The US military aircraft's attack on Iran's nuclear facilities under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency set a bad precedent and threatened the international nuclear non-proliferation system. Wang Yi emphasized that while strength is needed to defend peace, it may not necessarily bring true peace. China opposes the use of force to resolve disputes and always stands on the side of peace, dialogue, and international justice.
Wang Yi also mentioned President Xi Jinping's four-point proposal on the situation in the Middle East, emphasizing the immediate need to push for a ceasefire, prioritize the safety of civilians, open dialogue and negotiations as the fundamental solution, and stress the indispensable efforts of the international community to promote peace. China maintains communication with Iran, Israel, and relevant parties, hoping to achieve a genuine ceasefire and practical implementation. All parties should learn from past mistakes, restart dialogue on an equal basis, and steer the Iran nuclear issue back to a political resolution track. The core of the Middle East issue remains the Palestinian problem, and promoting the implementation of the "two-state solution" is crucial for achieving peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel. China supports Turkey in hosting the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation foreign ministers to encourage a unified voice against war, in support of peace, and calling for a de-escalation of conflicts. Turkey is expected to continue playing an active role in promoting regional peace and stability.
