On June 24th local time, the UK Competition and Markets Authority proposed designating Google's "strategic market position" in the general search and search advertising sectors. If ultimately designated, the CMA will be able to introduce targeted measures to address specific issues regarding Google's operation of search services in the UK. The agency will conduct consultations on the proposal before making a final decision in October. Google responded to this by stating that the CMA's proposal poses a significant challenge to the company's key business areas in the UK, expressing concerns that the CMA's considerations are still too broad and lack focus. Google will continue to work constructively with the CMA.
