A State Department official said on Monday that the United States has helped approximately 250 American citizens, permanent residents, and their immediate family members leave Israel since last Saturday. The tension in the Middle East escalated after the U.S. government attacked an Iranian nuclear facility over the weekend, leading to Iran retaliating by attacking a U.S. base in Qatar on Monday. The war between Israel and Iran began on June 13th when Israel launched strikes against Iran. President Trump said on Monday that Iran and Israel have agreed to a ceasefire. The State Department official stated that the State Department has been assisting flights departing from Israel since last Saturday. The official said that seven flights carrying approximately 250 American citizens, permanent residents, and their immediate family members have left Israel and have arrived in Athens, Rome, and Larnaca, Cyprus.
