The Vice President of the United States said he does not wish for the regime in Iran to change.
On June 22nd local time, US Vice President Pence said in an interview with NBC that, as President Trump has stated, the US is not interested in ground troops and he is not worried that a US attack on Iran would escalate into a prolonged conflict. Pence stated that the US does not seek regime change in Iran, but rather wants to engage in dialogue with Iran for a long-term solution. Pence pointed out that Trump's actions did not exceed the president's authority and that the decision to take action against Iran was not made lightly, but it provides an opportunity to restart relations and negotiations with Iran, as the US has received indirect messages from Iran. He emphasized that the US is not at war with Iran, but rather with its nuclear program, which is the US's biggest red line. The US is prepared for any retaliation from Iran and has delayed Iran's nuclear program for a long time. Pence said he did not know when Trump made the decision to strike Iran.
