Wei Dongyi was "close-up shot" while dining. Beijing Cyberspace Administration: Over 5000 accounts have been cleaned up.
On June 21, according to official information from the Beijing Internet Information Office, a video of assistant professor Wei Dongyi from Peking University being repeatedly photographed while dining in the cafeteria has caused high social concern. The intrusive behavior of "close-up filming" and "surrounding filming" has led to strong condemnation from the media and netizens, with the public calling for the protection of talent in a peaceful academic environment. Since Wei Dongyi opened his online account in early June, Beijing Municipal Internet Information Office has deployed measures to address issues such as impersonation of his account for follower attraction and malicious marketing for profit. The website platforms such as Douyin, Kuaishou, and Weibo have been instructed to strictly and quickly deal with these issues according to the law and regulations, resulting in the removal of over 5000 unauthorized accounts. In response to recent behaviors of "self-media" stalking and intrusive filming, the internet monitoring department has conducted investigations and supervised local website platforms to thoroughly identify and handle these cases, decisively eradicating the soil for unscrupulous traffic. As of now, 4699 pieces of information related to stalking and intrusive filming have been cleared, 32 unauthorized live broadcasting rooms have been shut down, and measures such as banning, restricting profit, and closing down have been taken against 740 "self-media" accounts engaged in malicious filming and distortion. The governance of "self-media" is a systematic and long-term project to purify the online environment. The Beijing Municipal Internet Information Office will continue to deepen targeted rectification, strengthen regular governance, enhance interdepartmental coordination, and fight against illegal behaviors both online and offline. At the same time, it will guide local platforms to establish effective management mechanisms and encourage "self-media" creators to embrace the concept of "positive energy is the greatest traffic", jointly creating a clean and positive online space.
