Error rate reduced by 1000 times! Microsoft achieves major breakthrough in quantum computing, now commercially viable.

On June 19th, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella shared a major technological breakthrough in quantum computing, the 4D topological quantum error correcting code. Compared to 2D codes, the 4D topological quantum error correcting code is much more efficient in encoding, error correction capability, and logical operations. Each logical qubit only requires very few physical qubits, allowing for error checking all at once and reducing error rates by 1000 times. This new quantum computing achievement will be applied in Microsoft's Azure Quantum quantum computing platform, accelerating the efficiency of research and development in fields such as science and healthcare.
