On June 19th, the China Television Drama Production Industry Association, together with Youku, Tencent Video, and iQiyi, three major video platforms, held a press conference focusing on the issue of piracy in the film and television industry. At a time when the "Sword Net 2025" special operation is cracking down on online copyright infringement of audiovisual works, this media event held in-depth discussions on the current status of piracy in the industry, the difficulties in safeguarding rights, and the strategies for governance, and released several recent typical cases. Case 1: Youku and iQiyi jointly sued a short video infringement case, with the court ordering the defendant to pay 800,000 yuan in damages. This was the first time the two major platforms had joined as co-plaintiffs in a case, with symbolic significance. Case 2: In the infringement case of the short video platform "Kuangbiao", the court found that the platform had not obtained permission from iQiyi company, and through actions such as setting topics and content sections, attracted user attention, causing extensive dissemination, constituting infringement of information network transmission rights, and ultimately awarded 30 million yuan in damages, which is one of the highest compensation cases in similar cases in the country. Case 3: Recently, popular dramas such as "Cang Hai Chuan" and "Zhe Yao" have also suffered from piracy. A man set up hundreds of pirated film and television websites on the internet for profit, illegally collecting unauthorized film and television works, accumulating tens of thousands of yuan in illegal profits, and is currently under criminal detention. Case 4: In the infringement case of the short video platform "Qing Yu Nian", the second-instance court found that the platform's subjective infringement was obvious, the infringement was serious, and punitive damages were applied, with a judgment for 9.64 million yuan in damages, a rare case of punitive damages. Case 5: Tencent sued Anbo TV box for infringement, and the final judgment of the US Federal District Court for the Western District of Texas awarded 84.75 million US dollars in damages, with "Chang Xiang Si" awarded 11.7 million US dollars, the highest compensation for a domestic enterprise in overseas video rights protection cases, providing a powerful reference for similar rulings in the future.
