On June 19th local time, Spanish Prime Minister Sanchez wrote to NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg, explicitly stating that Spain rejects NATO's proposal to increase military spending to 5% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In the letter, Sanchez stated that for Spain, the goal of 5% of GDP on military spending is not only unreasonable but counterproductive, as it would only further distance Spain from achieving appropriate spending levels.
