CPCA: At the end of May, the national inventory of passenger cars in China reached 3.45 million units, maintaining a high level of inventory.
According to the Zhitong Finance and Economics APP, Cui Dongshu, Secretary-General of the China Passenger Car Association, stated in a post that by the end of May 2025, the national inventory of passenger cars was 3.45 million, a decrease of 50,000 from the previous month and an increase of 160,000 from May 2024, indicating a continued high level of inventory. Currently, the policy initiatives have brought overall optimism to manufacturers, with high production for replacing old with new cars and relatively active wholesale from manufacturers, leading to the industry reaching a new high in inventory levels in the past two years. With the promotion of central consumption policies and active marketing activities such as car exhibitions around the country, as sales gradually enter the seasonal off-peak period from June to August, sales in the next three months are expected to gradually decline. Therefore, based on the comprehensive estimation of inventory at the end of May 2025 and future sales, the existing inventory is expected to support sales for 54 days, compared to 54 days in May 2023 and 51 days in May 2024, indicating a slight increase in overall inventory pressure in May of this year.
