In the turbulent global market in April, foreign investors held U.S. Treasury bonds at nearly record-high levels.
Despite President Trump's plans to implement the largest tariffs in over a century, leading to market turmoil, foreign investors still held close to historically high levels of US Treasury bonds in April. Data released by the US Treasury on Wednesday showed that foreign investors held a total of $9.01 trillion in US Treasury bonds in April, the second-highest level on record, with only a $360 billion decrease from March. The decrease mainly reflects net sales of US notes and bonds by foreign private investors. Official institutions remain net buyers of long-term US Treasuries.
