Chinese scientists make new progress in the development of "artificial leaves"

Recently, Chinese researchers have developed an efficient and stable semi-transparent photoelectric anode device, which can significantly improve the rate of water oxidation reaction and increase the efficiency of hydrogen production through solar water splitting, further promoting the emergence of more efficient and durable "artificial leaves". The team of new energy and chemical engineering at Tianjin University has developed an efficient and stable semi-transparent photoelectric anode device - a semi-transparent indium sulfide photoanode. The unique transparent characteristics of this device not only significantly enhance the rate of water oxidation reaction, but also allow some sunlight to penetrate to reach the photoelectric cathode, reducing the ineffective energy loss of sunlight and effectively solving the contradiction between the opacity effect of the metal layer and the interface transfer barrier of photogenerated electrons. This research achievement was recently published in the international academic journal "Nature Communications".
