New Zealand: Plans to switch to an annual data-driven census starting in 2030.
From 2030, New Zealand will cancel the five-yearly census and instead adopt a new method using administrative data collected from various government agencies. Minister of Statistics Shane Reti confirmed that New Zealand will start releasing monthly CPI data from 2027. Reti stated that the annual data-driven census will be supported by smaller-scale surveys and targeted data collection. This decision means that the next census scheduled for 2028 will not take place.
