Strategist: A few Federal Reserve officials may lower their expectations for interest rate cuts this year, enough to turn the situation around.
Matthew Ryan, Market Strategy Director at financial services company Ebury, said that the basic forecast for most policymakers in 2025 is still two interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve, given the serious uncertainty over tariffs, they may not have enough confidence to substantially change their views. However, there is a risk that a few officials believe this year's rate cut will be lower than previously expected, which could be enough to reverse the situation and lean towards only a 25 basis point rate cut in 2025. Hawkish dot plots and Powell's emphasis on the lack of urgency in lowering interest rates may provide some strength for the US Dollar in the latter part of this week.
