The intense trade war has not weakened Canadian investors' interest in US assets, as they continue to heavily purchase US bonds. According to Statistics Canada's report on Tuesday, in April, Canadian investors net bought $9.2 billion Canadian dollars worth of US government bonds, the largest single investment since November 2023. In the same month, amid escalating tariff tensions, investors also purchased $1.1 billion Canadian dollars worth of US treasury bonds and reduced their holdings of US stocks. Prior to this, Canadian investors reached a record high in February by investing $29.8 billion Canadian dollars in US stocks.
