The German economic research institute ZEW said on Tuesday that German investor confidence rose more than expected in June, with the economic sentiment index increasing from 25.2 in May to 47.5. ZEW President Achim Wambach said, "Confidence is on the rise." He added that the fiscal policy measures announced by the German government, as well as the recent interest rate cuts by the European Central Bank, may put an end to Germany's economic stagnation. Additionally, while the index measuring the current situation remains in negative territory, the June increase was higher than expected, rising from -82.0 in May to -72.0.
