After the blockbuster deal in which Meta Platforms Inc. invested $14.3 billion in the artificial intelligence startup Scale AI, many venture capital firms are expected to reap substantial profits from their early bets on the company. The biggest winner is one of Silicon Valley's oldest venture capital firms, Accel. The firm first invested in Scale AI nearly a decade ago when the company's CEO was still a teenager. According to a source familiar with the matter who requested anonymity due to involvement in non-public information, Accel is expected to make over $2.5 billion in investment returns this time. Founded in 2016, Scale AI has a star-studded lineup of investors. According to sources, the company's largest shareholders include Index Ventures, Y Combinator, and Tiger Global Management.
