Recently, the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television implemented special regulatory measures for automatic renewal services on internet television. This crackdown focuses on common issues such as "no warning before deduction", "complicated cancellation process", and "inaccessible complaints channels" that users have been complaining about. In the past, some platforms hid the automatic renewal option in lengthy service agreements, which resulted in consumers being charged continuously without their knowledge. This regulatory work now clearly requires operators to return the choice to users, and any automatic renewal behavior without explicit user authorization is considered a violation of regulations. In response to users' complaints about "no warning before deduction" and "complicated cancellation process" for automatic renewal, the new regulations specify that internet television integrated broadcast control platforms must send deduction reminders through various channels such as SMS, app push notifications, and service messages at least 5 days before automatic renewal. The reminder must include key information such as the name of the renewal product, amount deducted, and service period to ensure users can accurately identify the product being renewed.
