On June 14th local time, a village in Benue state in central Nigeria was attacked by gunmen, resulting in at least 100 deaths and dozens of injuries. It is reported that there has been long-standing competition between farmers and herders over land use rights in the region, and ethnic and religious differences have also heightened tensions.
