Typhoon "Butterfly" makes second landfall in southern China, two departments deploy flood control and typhoon prevention work.
On June 14th, the National Disaster Mitigation Office and the Ministry of Emergency Management continued to organize joint consultations with meteorological, water resources, and natural resources departments to assess the development trend of the first typhoon "Butterfly" and heavy rainfall in South China, Jiangnan, and other areas this year, and to arrange and deploy current flood and typhoon prevention work. Typhoon "Butterfly" made its first landfall on the coastal areas of Dongfang City, Hainan Province on the night of the 13th, and made a second landfall on the western coast of Leizhou, Guangdong around 12:30 on the 14th. It is expected that from the 14th to the 15th, there will be heavy to extremely heavy rain in parts of South Central and Eastern China, Jiangnan, and the southern regions, with locally heavy rain to extremely heavy rain in the western parts of Guangdong and the eastern parts of Guangxi. The consultation emphasized that Typhoon "Butterfly" will have a long duration, wide impact, strong rainfall intensity, and high disaster risk. Localities and relevant departments should be highly vigilant, recheck and implement evacuation measures, relocate threatened populations according to risk assessments, and properly ensure the living conditions of relocated people. There should be re-inspections and rectifications of key areas, increased inspections and night patrols of hidden hazards in coastal chemical, hazardous chemical enterprises, small and medium-sized reservoirs, dangerous sections of dikes, steep slopes, waterways, submerged interchanges, underground spaces, and areas prone to water accumulation. Rapidly respond to dangerous situations, organize firefighting, rescue, water management, drainage, transportation, power, communication, and other emergency response forces to quickly carry out post-disaster recovery work, and strive to reduce disaster losses.
