On June 13th, a chat collection spread in a WeChat group, with someone claiming "someone died from falling in the scramble for blind boxes in Guangzhou's Pop Mart." At the same time, the chat collection included footage of a quarrel in front of a Pop Mart vending machine and an image of a woman lying on the floor of a shopping mall. In response, reporters contacted the Eight Hundred Mall in Jiaxing, Zhejiang, where the woman fell from a building according to the viral video. A store staff member confirmed to the reporters, "Indeed, someone fell from a building, it happened last night." As for whether the woman's fall was related to the blind box scramble, the store staff denied it, saying, "The exact reason needs to be asked to the police, but it definitely wasn't because of the blind box scramble.
