On June 11, 2025, the Governor of the People's Bank of China, Pan Gongsheng, and the President of the European Central Bank, Lagarde, held their first annual meeting of central bank governors from China and Europe. Pan Gongsheng stated that China is committed to promoting high-quality development through high-level openness, and is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with various economies, including the European Union, to tackle global challenges together. The People's Bank of China is willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation with the European Central Bank, and to establish the annual meeting mechanism as an important platform for strengthening policy communication and advancing cooperation between the central banks of China and Europe to a new level. Lagarde stated that deepening cooperation between China and Europe is of great significance in the current complex and changing international situation. The European Central Bank attaches great importance to cooperation with the People's Bank of China, and the memorandum of cooperation signed by the two sides will facilitate close communication in various fields in the future and strengthen coordinated cooperation.
