A child infected with measles in Canada has died.
Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health Kieran Moore stated on the 5th that a baby infected with measles in the southwest of the province has died. Reuters quoted Moore as saying that the deceased was a premature baby who "contracted the virus from the mother before birth, and the mother did not receive the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine." He added, "Although measles may have been a contributing factor to the premature birth and death, the baby also had other serious medical complications unrelated to the measles virus." For privacy reasons, Moore did not disclose any more personal or medical details about the baby's death. According to Reuters, this is the first reported case of a child dying from measles in Canada this year.
