South Korea says it continues to have close communication with the United States on foreign exchange policies, and there are suspicions from the outside world that exchange rates may become the main topic of trade negotiations.
South Korea will continue to discuss its foreign exchange policy with the United States to promote mutual understanding; previously, the U.S. Treasury Department put South Korea on a watchlist and called on it to restrain interventions in the exchange rate. The South Korean Ministry of Finance issued a statement on Friday, saying that it will seek to enhance "mutual understanding and trust" in foreign exchange policy through regular communication and dialogue with the current administration in the United States. U.S. and South Korean officials held exchange rate consultations in Milan last month, leading to speculation that the Trump administration may be willing to accept a depreciation of the U.S. dollar, and exchange rates could become a topic of trade negotiations.
