The Vietnamese National Assembly passed a resolution to streamline the 63 provincial-level administrative units to 34.
On June 5th, local time, at the 46th meeting of the Standing Committee of the Vietnamese National Assembly held in Hanoi, a resolution on restructuring administrative units was unanimously passed. In a proposal submitted by the Vietnamese Ministry of Home Affairs, 52 out of the 63 provincial-level administrative units in Vietnam will be merged into 23, reducing the number of provincial-level administrative units in Vietnam to 34, including 6 municipalities and 28 provinces. This reform will also reduce the number of communal-level administrative units by 66.91%, bringing the total down to 3,321.
