Ministry of Ecology and Environment: By 2024, the proportion of coal consumption in the total energy consumption will be 53.2%.

On June 5, 2025, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment officially released the "2024 China Ecological and Environmental Status Report". The proportion of coal consumption in the total energy consumption decreased by 1.6 percentage points to 53.2% compared to 2023; the proportion of clean energy consumption such as natural gas, hydropower, nuclear power, wind power, and solar power in the total energy consumption increased by 2.2 percentage points to 28.6% compared to 2023. By the end of 2024, the cumulative trading volume of carbon emission rights in the national carbon emissions trading market reached 630 million tons, with a total turnover of 43.033 billion yuan.
