Illegal purchase of over 160,000 pieces of citizens' information to make sales calls, one company leader sentenced.

Recently, the People's Court of Fengtai District, Beijing, disclosed a case in which the person in charge of a lending company illegally obtained personal information of citizens. The court revealed that starting from May 2020, the person in charge of a lending company, Zhang, illegally purchased over 160,000 pieces of personal information such as phone numbers of citizens through the internet in order to develop and expand customer sources. He was charged with the crime of infringing on the personal information of citizens. The court ruled that Zhang's illegal acquisition of personal information of citizens violated Article 253 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China and constituted the crime of infringing on the personal information of citizens. Taking into account Zhang's confession attitude, the quantity, use, and profit of personal information of citizens, he was sentenced to three years in prison for the crime of infringing on the personal information of citizens, and fined 200,000 RMB.
