Finnish network equipment manufacturer Nokia announced on Wednesday that an alliance led by Nokia consisting of over 42 organizations will carry out a drone project aimed at protecting and enhancing the resilience of Europe's most critical infrastructure. Member organizations including startups and universities will build new functionalities such as laser or radar sensors on hardware platforms such as drones manufactured by defense companies. Part of the funding for this project comes from participating countries, companies, and the EU's chip joint venture program, which also allows non-EU countries such as Israel to participate. Companies participating in this project include Nvidia and European defense companies Saab, Leonardo, and Thales. A Nokia spokesperson stated that the newly appointed CEO of Nokia has identified defense as one of the company's priority areas, alongside data centers and artificial intelligence. According to a statement seen by the media, the aerial, ground, and underwater robotic project is initially planned to run for three years, with an expected revenue of 90 million euros by 2035. Nokia is unable to confirm the total amount of funding for this project.
