Sichuan: plans to extend marriage leave to a maximum of 25 days, and extend maternity leave to a maximum of 150 days.

The official website of the Sichuan Provincial Health Commission recently released the "Sichuan Provincial Population and Family Planning Regulations". The draft proposes to extend the marriage leave period. Based on the actual situation in Sichuan and referring to the practices of other provinces, the marriage leave will be extended from 5 days to 20 days, with an additional 5 days of marriage leave for voluntary participation in pre-marital medical examinations. A mechanism for increasing the length of maternity leave based on the number of children born in accordance with laws and regulations will also be established. Maternity leave in Sichuan will be extended to 90 days for the first child, 120 days for the second child, and 150 days for the third child. This means an extension of one month, two months, and three months respectively for the first, second, and third child compared to the original 60-day period. Paternity leave will be extended from 20 days to 30 days to facilitate male caretaking of their wives after childbirth, and promote shared parenting responsibilities between husbands and wives.
