On June 3rd, renowned computer scientist and AI "father" Joshua Benjio announced the launch of the non-profit organization LawZero, dedicated to developing "trustworthy" artificial intelligence systems. The organization plans to create a set of AI defense mechanisms to prevent AI entities from attempting to deceive humans. Benjio will serve as the chairman of the LawZero organization. With around $30 million in initial funding and a team of over a dozen researchers, he is currently developing a system called "Scientist AI". This system will serve as a security defense mechanism to prevent AI entities from exhibiting deceptive or self-protective behavior, such as trying to avoid being shut down. "It is crucial that the AI serving as a barrier be at least as intelligent as the AI entities it is attempting to supervise and control."
