Musk said on Sunday that although he has always been a staunch ally of Trump, he does not always support the government's policies. He said on the program, "I'm in a bit of a bind, I don't want to openly oppose the government, but I also do not want to be responsible for all the government's actions." In the first few months of Trump's term, thousands of federal positions were eliminated. Musk defended his government work record but admitted in the interview, "DOGE became the scapegoat for everything. So, whether there were actually cuts or not, everyone blamed DOGE." He also expressed frustration with the GOP's proposed trillion-dollar tax and spending bill currently being debated in Congress, which is expected to increase the US debt by trillions of dollars. "To be honest, I'm very disappointed to see this massive spending bill," he said, adding that it "undermines the work the DOGE team is doing."
