Shanghai's first heavy rainstorm of the flood season this year fell during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, with heavy rain expected in the eastern and southern parts.
Starting from June 1st, Shanghai has entered the main flood season, which is the period of the year with the most rainfall. Tomorrow is the Dragon Boat Festival, and influenced by the eastward development of the Jianghuai Cyclone, heavy rain will hit after nightfall. From early morning on June 1st to the morning of June 2nd, the accumulated rainfall can reach 50 to 80 millimeters, reaching the level of heavy rain, with some areas experiencing 80 to 110 millimeters, which is considered very heavy rain. The main period of precipitation will occur from noon on the 1st to the early morning of the 2nd, with some areas possibly experiencing weak thunderstorms. Zhao Yuanming, the chief forecaster of the Shanghai Central Meteorological Observatory, stated that this rainfall will mainly be stable and prolonged, with relatively fewer instances of thunder, strong winds, and severe convective weather. During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, there will be more showers and thunderstorms in Shanghai and surrounding areas. On Children's Day, there will be noticeable precipitation, which could lead to localized short-term flooding, so please be cautious when traveling.
