Analysts at the Oxford Economics Institute wrote that consumer spending in the United States has had a good start this year, remaining roughly flat in January, increasing by 0.5% in February, and increasing by 0.7% in March. With higher tariffs impacting the economy, this situation may change. On Thursday, an appeals court maintained some of the tariffs during ongoing litigation. The Oxford Economics Institute wrote: "We believe that this impact is not enough to push the economy into a recession, but the extent to which consumers increase precautionary savings may ultimately be a decisive factor in whether an economic recession occurs."
