Cui Dongshu: China's imports of cars decreased by 35% year-on-year from January to April, and the sustained shrinkage of imported cars still faces significant pressure.

According to the Securities Times APP, Cui Dongshu, Secretary General of the Passenger Car Association, stated in a post that after reaching a peak of 1.43 million imported cars in 2014, the import growth rate slightly stabilized in 2016-2017, but has been continuously declining since 2018. The import volume is expected to decrease sharply in 2024, with only 700,000 imported cars for the whole year, a 12% year-on-year decrease. Currently, from January to April 2025, there were 135,000 imported cars, a 35% year-on-year decrease. Among them, 40,000 cars were imported in April, a 22% decrease. The continuous shrinkage of imported cars still faces considerable pressure.
